Justice Gems Designer Jewelry Story - How we started...

Our exclusive "Justice Gems" paperclip jewelry design incorporates handcrafted solid silver wire into paperclip earrings, necklaces & other original jewelry.

Why "Justice Gems" Collection was designed: Jewelry designer & Film Maker, Diane Wigstone, was at a critical point of decision about many things in her life. While on a prayer walk at the Hollywood Bowl she found several paperclips at key places on her journey. She kept each one, feeling that they each were a jewel or a gem, and very significant. When she returned home she began to research the paperclip, and why it was significant. There she found out about the GEM name, as well as the significance of paperclips - GEMS - as social justice jewelry. She designed a pair of Justice Gem earrings for herself, and then for her friends, and now they are available to you!!!

Why the GEM name? The original trade name for Paper Clips was "Gems".

Why the paperclip design as Social Justice Jewelry? During WWII paperclips "Gems" were worn as jewelry by many in Norway to signify that the person was standing in solidarity with the Jewish people against the travesties of the holocaust. Hitler is said to have outlawed paperclips in Europe during that time, due to the impact of the social justice jewelry. They became a sign of the importance of standing up for the rights of others and for what you believe in! We have a special Justice Gems Star of David Design for you to show that you continue to stand in solidarity with the Jewish people against the travesties of the holocaust.

What else about Social Justice Gems? In 1998, a group of children studying the Holocaust in Whitewell, Tennessee began a project that is now know as “6 Million Paperclips” where they collected a paperclip for each Jewish person that lost their lives in Germany. A Documentary was made about the project and was released in 2004. (You can order the book & documentary here.)

Stand in solidarity against the travesties of our generation - systemic poverty, human and sex trafficking - by proudly wearing your "Justice Gems."
